An Edge-y “poem” from the cast and crew

December 4, 2008

After two amazing months of COASTING through the show at Revival Bar, we sadly must come to a close. We have all BECOME so close and BETTER friends through this amazing experience. We opened on October 20th and were READY TO BE LOVED, and a little scared that people would think that our show was DISPENSABLE. Fortunately, the show took off in Toronto with people everywhere saying “I’VE GOTTA RUN to go see Edges”. The response has really made us think: “BOY! WITH DREAMS that come true, you sure feel a lot of pride,” and “MAN! OF MY DREAMS that I hoped would come true, this one ranked pretty high.” Thank you for believing in our show and supporting us all along the way.

I ONCE KNEW someone who told me that sometimes the best ideas come to you when you are simply LYING THERE and LIKE….BREATHING and thinking… and stuff. Well that’s how Edges got started. By simply thinking that this was a show we would all want to be a PART OF; A PAINTING that we wanted to paint together and to share with the people of Toronto. And it’s turned out to be pretty PERFECT.

Special thanks to our headEDGESHEADs for supporting the show (especially CAITLYN AND HALEY).

This is also probably a good opportunity to reveal one of the behind-the-scenes secrets. Through this whole run, Reza and I… HMMM…. YOU know what, I should probably save that announcement for another time.

IN SHORT thank you all for agreeing to BE MY FRIEND and following this site through our run.

Every day with Edges, has been a PRETTY SWEET DAY.

(TRANSITION: Don’t forget there are two final performances of Edges on Sunday (Dec. 7) @ 7PM and Monday @ 8PM (Dec. 8). Visit www.edgestoronto.com to get your tickets to the final shows)

Playing Favourites!

November 27, 2008
Here lies a list of names. What do all of these people have in common?
Ian Epstein
Kathy Kacer
Jake Epstein
Esther Yermus
Johanna Craig
Paul Sportelli
Danna Epstein
Dana Brookman
Kristen Jewell
Amanda Campbell
Kelli Wong
Rhoselyn Bugay
JP Beleviqua
(those reading this let me know who i missed!)

Ok… the answer’s coming… it’s around the corner… have you guessed it? All of these people have…
SEEN EDGES MORE THAN ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND most of these people have come back with friends! Have you heard about our GROUP deal? If you can get a group of 10 people or less you can like watch us sound check and have a little pre-partedges! If you thought you were cool already…
So, the moral is… think like the cool people on the list… if you don’t have anything to do on a Sunday or Monday night and add your name to my list if you’ve come again. The winner gets to see Edges again!!! (and a puppy apparently?)
WHAT A DEAL!!!

We’re still here!!

November 9, 2008

SO– we’ve been open for a few weeks now and the shows have freaking rocked the house… or the bar in our case…
Everybody has been so amazing for coming out and supporting our show and the reaction from you guys as well as the media has been pretty overwhelming!
But it’s important for everybody to remember that… WE’RE STILL HERE!!! And we’ve just been extended until November 24th bitchesssssssssss! So, if you’re one of those people who has asked me about the show, or congratulated me on the show, or has promised me that they are coming at some point, or has told me that they’ve “heard such great things about it”, well… GET YOUR ASS DOWN TO REVIVAL AND FREAKING SEE THE SHOW!!!!!!!
I’m serious!!! This is not a joke! You’ve heard about the amazing music… COME! You’ve heard about our out of this world 2 man band Reza and Jamie… COME! You’ve heard about Sara’s powerhouse voice… COME! You’ve heard about Jordan’s heart-wrenching song at the end of the first half… COME! You’ve heard about Eric’s hilarious awesomeness and his much more than “the funny one” voice… COME! You’ve heard that I have a brother who was on Degrassi and who is sometimes there… COME! Who knows! Maybe I’ll introduce you!!! (you know I’m getting desperate when i start using jake for publicity…)
All in all, we’re not “belting from our tits” (quote from Wayne Gwillim) for nothing… we’re doing this for you.
I want to give a shout out to my cousin Danna Epstein for coming twice FROM HAMILTON and each time bringing a group of 10 people who each brought additional people.
She gets it… (of course she does… she’s an Epstein!)
We love our show and we love you. Therefore we would love you even more if you were at Edges.
No more excuses… that is all…
I mean come on, my voice student’s 7-year old little brother came last week and couldn’t stop saying, “Rainbow coloured turds” for the rest of the night… if that doesn’t constitute a reason to come, I don’t know what does.

Edges, Edges Everwhere!!

October 30, 2008

Edges officially opened on Monday night to a sold-out, hugely enthusiastic crowd, and now it seems to be taking over the media!

First, The Toronto Star wrote an amazing piece on how Edges is trying to change theatergoing habits in the city:

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/Theatre/article/524963

Then, after opening, we received two awesome reviews.

The Toronto Star gave the show 3 out of 4 stars saying:

“Four joyous young singers and the pair of dynamite musicians who back them up are more than enough reason to urge you to go see Edges.”

“Jordan Bell is alternately sweet and sly… Eric Craig is hysterically bitchy then beautifully lyrical… Sara Farb burns with a clean bright light Gabi Epstein] stops the evening cold twice.”

Read the rest of it here:

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/525719

Then Eye Weekly gave us 4 out of 5 stars:

http://www.eyeweekly.com/arts/theatre/article/43567

Finally, our fourth Edgy questions has been posted on Youtube! The video features clips from “Pretty Sweet Day” and has the cast baffled over a question about “friendship”.

Enjoy!

Edges for Realsies!

October 24, 2008

So Edgeheads, after a year of waiting, and a whole lotta spread out rehearsal, we finally had our first show this past Monday!  And holy crap it was great!  Before Monday, I had been thinking about Monday every single day of being on that Disney ship.  Every single crazy wig, every time I watched Rachel Fischer’s pyro not work from inside Slinky Butt, even every single time i was in my crazy 30,000$ Belle gown, i was looking forward to Monday.  And then Monday happened, and now we’re doing edges… like… for realsies.
I wish I came up with ‘edges for realsies’ but i have to credit it to my little bro.  When Sara and I performed at our crazy high school anniversary celebration, Jake came to the conclusion that whole evening featuring diverse performances of Earl Haig alumni was like a high school assembly… but ‘for realsies’.
Considering last year when Sares and I put on this little show ourselves at the Centre for the Arts, and when I think about that crazy hot night where it felt like our Bikram Yoga studio and the elevator wasn’t working making guests walk up 5 flights of stairs, i’m like HOLY CRAP!  THIS IS EDGES FOR REALSIES!
In other news, it’s not for sure at all yet, but i may possibly be doing an interview for CBC Radio…. IN FRENCH!  This makes me pee just a little bit because I haven’t had a french conversation like this since I tried to convince the Montrealers that I was a local… And it didn’t last long because they didn’t believe me!!!
Anyway, the CBC producer called me today to sort of ‘screen’ me to see if I was going to be okay… I have yet to hear, but i definitely didn’t fail!  I was pretty decent in our conversation and said things like “entre une comedie musical et un concert de rock”, and “4 personnes dans leurs vaintaines qui sont tous peurs d’entrer la prochaine etage de leurs vies”.  The only thing is I don’t know how to pronounce the word “Edges”.  I could be TOTALLY “hon hon hon” and put the emphasis on the “ges” of Edges making it sound like a french name… which I kind of want to do just to make my Edgy folk laugh a little… and by a little I mean like jerks…
Also if this interview does happen I’m determined to find a way to put “pamplemousse” in… I don’t know how so if anyone has any ideas on how a grapefruit can be used in an Edges interview please let me know!
Alrighty, I’m watching Food Network Cake Making Challenge: Disney Villains and Cruella’s not looking so hot… I’m gonna get back to the action… HOW WILL IT END???
Aight peeps, come to the show.  Definitely come to the show.  If you’re reading this blog and haven’t come to the show you’re taking advantage of my witty writing… so come to the show.  Sara, you’re the only one who reads these blogs and you’re already at the show so you can enjoy the blog all you want!! :)
Happy Edges days!
